Last year, I was asked by Mei Posso if I could work with her on a PR pitch for the upcoming OPI X Barbie collaboration and whether I would be able to customise some dolls to look like influencers. I had some experience with customising toys and with making stop motion miniatures so of course I said yes and that I would prepare something.
She didn’t know the doll I was going to make would be of her, but I couldn’t resist recreating her recent birthday look because it definitely gave Barbie vibes. Her face is hand painted, hair is rerooted, and wears a dress, gloves and jewellery all made by me
Unfortunately the idea didn’t end up moving forward… but I had so much fun working on everything and feel incredibly lucky to have had an opportunity like this - also huge shoutout to Mei for being a great friend and always supporting my work, we all need friends like Mei!
I carried on with the project myself and when the merchandise started to be released I decided to play around with designing different styles of boxes the dolls could’ve been packaged in, making an illustration for the box art and rendering some mock ups in Blender.
